Hello 2021…I think we are all more than ready for this new year. Maybe you want to set some goals or resolutions this year? I don’t really have resolutions, but I do use this time to evaluate where I am, in my walk with Christ. I use this time to help me focus on what I need to do to get to know God better, see how I can serve him and just take time to reflect on how much good he has done.

If you want some help reflecting on your relationship with Christ this year, check out this Journal Reflection I made. You can download the pdf for free here.

Every single year, I write down that I want to be closer to God and get to know him more. And every year I do get to know him more but at the end of each year, there is still so much more to know. This last year was a rough one but it brought me so much closer to God. I learnt that there are so many ways to get to know him. So,here are 15 ways that can help you get to know God this year. I hope you will give some of them a go and will enjoy growing your relationship with the Father!

15 Ways to Get to Know God

1) Spending time reading the Bible - The Bible tells us so much about who God is and what he is like! Start with the Gospels, you will see how much he loves you… he sent his son to die for you... so, he loves you a whole lot!

2) Pray! - Pray however and wherever you can. Talking to God makes a world of difference.

3) Serve - This could be in church or with a Christian organisation. Jesus came to serve, and we should serve too, we learn so much about God by serving him.

4) Worship Music - Listen to some worship songs, sing or just reflect on the words.

5) Get Creative - Draw, dance, write, perform etc. Use your creative talents to express your relationship with Christ.

6) Read Christian books - This can be any kind of book; theological, devotional, fictional.

7) Watch Christian YouTubers - I have enjoyed watching and being encouraged by others in faith. We don’t always have a lot of Christian friends around us, but we can be encouraged seeing others living out faith online. (ps. I have a channel you can watch here)

8) Go to Church - Church is about community. You can learn so much from the people in your church. They are there to care about you, pray for you, support you!

9) Look for God in the everyday - Sometimes we think God can only meet us in a church, but he is with us everywhere we go. When you walk the dog or buy your weekly food shop, on the school run even when you’re taking a shower! Spend time looking out for God and you might start to notice how much he is with you.

10) Share your faith - When you share your faith, you not only have the opportunity to change someone’s life, but you also grow deeper in your walk with God. He will help you to find the words.

11) Give - Give in whatever way works for you. The more you give, the more God blesses you back.

12) Check out what life is like for other Christians - I got to know God so much better when I realised what life is like for those who are persecuted. Sometimes we only know what our own circle is like, take time to see what being a Christian means for other people in the world.

13) Study - You can do this with a Bible college or mentor or by yourself. There are so many great aids and styles for Bible study. Spending intentional time trying to understand Bible stories and passages, greatly grows your understanding of God.

14) Ask - Ask God to reveal more of himself to you. He longs for you to know him and he will help you to get to know him better, you just need to ask.

15) No pressure - Finally – don’t put pressure on yourself! Getting to know God is a lifelong journey. Each day, each year you will learn something new and different. Your relationship is much like any other, it will have ups and downs. But you will grow and get to know him more if you are willing to. So, don’t compare or measure your growth. Just allow God to meet with you and trust that you will know him more and more each day.

I pray that as you seek after God this year, he will meet you in extraordinary and wonderful ways.

Faithfully, Becky
