Bible study has not always come easy to me and there are so many ways to do it! So, today I wanted to share my ‘must- haves’ for studying the word; these have all helped me in my journey to diving deeper into the Bible.

1) Schedule Your Study

This has been a big game changer for me. If you are someone who enjoys making lists, this one is for you! Scheduling the time in makes it so much easier to do it because I have carved out specific time for it and I love the feeling of checking off my to-do list too!

2) Get A Bible You Enjoy Reading Try out different translations and then find a Bible that suits you. Maybe you want one with commentary in it or you want to space to write in it like me. Whatever you desire, it is pretty much out there. I wanted a Bible that I felt comfortable writing in and making notes in. I have a journaling bible in the NIV translation. I will link it here. Getting a Bible, you can read easily, enjoy and be comfortable with, is a huge step in making your study time deeper and productive.

3) Journals/Notebooks

They don’t have to be fancy and you don’t have to use it every day but having somewhere to put your thoughts and track your prayers, is really helpful. I have been using the same one for three years and it is so nice to look back and see progression or remind myself of lessons I had learned before. There is no right or wrong but having a specific place to put my thoughts and feelings during a study session or prayer time has been so helpful.

4) Make Use of The Bible App

It is free and has many features. I think making good use of the plans, word of the day emails and now the stories, is really helpful. It is also amazing that no matter where you go, you will always have a Bible handy in your phone!

5) Scripture/Prayer Map

These are a new addition to my Bible study time, and I am loving it. The scripture memory map helps you to remember scripture and gives you space to write exactly want you want to memorise and why you want to remember it. The prayer map helps keep track of prayers for yourself, your family, friends and the world etc. I will link them here.

6) Instrumental Worship

I try not to use music too often but when I do, it is always instrumental now. I try not to get distracted by the words or feelings music can bring but an instrumental playing quietly in the background can help you to focus and tune out of your busy life for a minute.

7) Accountability

We all need someone or something to help us to stay on track. I recommend getting a friend or someone to check in with you on whether you are spending time with God or not! If you teach or lead like me, that can really help you stay focused and accountable too. It is pretty hard to teach or lead if you do not spend your own time with God.

8) Perseverance

It is not easy in this busy world to make good time to study and find that quiet and peace to do so but keep going and it will get better. It takes solid effort and dedication, but it is so worth it. You can make it a new habit and one that will change your life for the better.

I have been doing these eight things for a while (except 5, that is newer) and it has helped me so much with growing in my faith and knowledge of God. I really hope these tips can maybe help you too! Let’s share tips so we can all have much more fruitful and enjoyable Bible studies, leave your must-haves in the comments below!

Faithfully,

Becky
