Stop and Smell the Roses...

I hadn't looked at my Orchid plant in a week or so. It sits on my window seal, but I don't always pay attention to it. But today, a little shoot coming in, caught me off guard! The flowers have all fallen off and I thought it was going to a season of dormancy yet today I saw a whole heap of new growth. I looked closer and there were three or four new shoots and new leaves growing. How did I miss that? I couldn't believe how quickly they had grown but also that I hadn't noticed it until now!

Life is a lot like my Orchid plant... so often we forget to stop and smell the roses, we forget to count our blessings and look for growth. My plant made me stop and look at my life, look at the progress I have made, look at how God has been with me and how my faith has deepened. It can be so hard to see the benefits of what we have been doing. I know I have looked in the mirror after one work out, to see if I have suddenly gained body builder arms! When we don't see results straight away, we often give up on the idea of ever seeing them. I thought my plant wasn't doing anything, so I stopped looking. I thought reading my Bible and studying theology hadn't really got me anywhere, but when I stopped and looked at my life... do you know what I saw? Growth! I needed to look a bit closer and give things time.
Take a minute today to look for growth, look for God in your life. And remember to give things time. It may seem like nothing is happening but one day a little shoot will appear and growth will begin to overflow!
Stop and smell the roses... or the orchid!
Faithfully,
Becky
