Isolation has brought out the best and worst in all of us! The best being new hobbies, talents and the fact that we could all do with spending more time away from our phones and screens. In this post I want to share my top ten activities I have been doing to make the most out of my lock-down, stay relaxed and beat the boredom.

Here is my list in no particular order:

1) Try new recipes This is a great time to spend cooking new meals or trying your hand at baking. I have been enjoying making different meals from different countries and now I have more time it’s been fun to make more complicated and time-consuming desserts.

2) Listen to new music This is a great time to listen to the classics, but we all get stuck in a rut sometimes. This is a great time to branch out, listen to new artists and just fill your library up.

3) Try new styles/outfits I have been digging through my wardrobe and just trying things in new ways and finding old things I had forgotten about. Now is a great time to experiment… no one can see you, so there is no judgement!

4) Go for a walk Depending on your fitness levels, it can be a short walk, a stroll, a jog or run. Just get out and get your body moving, it is good for your body and your mental health. It can also be a good time to just reflect and spend time with God. (If you can’t go for a walk and you do not have a garden – you could make a nice space at a window. You can make your windowsill all decorated and just sit and do an activity with the fresh air blowing in or enjoy the view for a few minutes.)

5) Try a new hobby or skill This is a great time to try out a new hobby. You don’t always have to buy things to try something new. Maybe someone you are living with does a hobby you haven’t really tried before. Take this time to explore new things.

6) Movies and TV I wouldn’t recommend spending all day watching movies and TV! But this is a lovely time to watch with those you are living with and have time together. It can also be fun to try new movies and get into new shows.

7) Fitness Fitness doesn’t have to be negative; I think fitness is about how you feel. I have been enjoying moving my body and building strength. This is a time to focus on being fit not for looks or society but for your health and well-being.

8) Relationship with God Take this time to read the Bible more, build your prayer life and learn to really trust God. We have no control and that can be really hard for most people, but we need to learn to let go and let God.

9) Read or listen to books If reading isn’t your thing, I really recommend audible. They do great free trials for free and you can swap the book if it isn’t enjoyable.

10) Spend time with yourself I don’t mean taking a bubble bath or doing skincare. Both of these are great, but I mean really spend time with yourself. This is a time to take notice of your habits, you can make healthy ones and work on bad ones. This time is also helpful to work out what is important to you, what do you want, what do you enjoy most etc. Just take time to slow down and figure yourself out.

I hope you give a few of these things a go and you continue to survive isolation!

Keep going, we will get there together.

Faithfully,

Becky
