Satan and the 'blues'

I am normally a happy-go-lucky kinda girl. I always have a smile plastered on my face, even in the hardest of times. But I have these periods of feeling 'blue', the kind when you don't want to get out bed, you wish you didn't make those plans and you feel so low, you can barely lift your head off the pillow. I usually don't know why its happened; one day I am fine and the next, I wake up to the full on blues. There are many factors that can contribute to the blues; chronic illness, stress and now the effects of the virus on daily life. But the one thing I am sure is always at play, is Satan. He lives for this stuff, seeing you down and hurting. And you best believe he is going to do all he can to keep you that way.

Spiritual warfare is a real as it comes and Satan is always waging a war against those who love and serve Jesus. My life right now is all about God and that makes Satan furious. There is a big difference for me between fatigue exhaustion and the blues brought on by Satan. When I am exhausted I still want to hear my favourite worship songs, I want to do my routines, look after myself, pray, and read the Bible. But when I am in the blues, those are the last things I feel like doing. I let it all go, I don't pray or read and I don't take good care of myself. Friend, if you are relating to this, then I want to tell you right now, that 1) you must be doing something right in your walk with Christ and 2) you can win against Satan's efforts to break you.

More often than not, Satan comes at you hardest when you are doing the most for God. The way in which each of us serve Christ looks different, but when you are on fire and busy for God, that is when Satan strikes. It is almost always in my busiest periods of serving God that the blues hit me. When you get knocked by Satan, you can almost guarantee that you are doing something right for Christ. He wouldn't go after someone who doesn't proclaim Jesus as King. So, as much as it is painful and a struggle, take some strength from the knowledge that he is coming after you because you are running after Christ.

But it can't end there, you can't get out of the blues on good feelings about your work for Christ. You can win against Satan, but it means you have to step up the fight. Now, don't get me wrong, we on our own cannot win against Satan, but God in us can. If we choose to bow to down to the blues and stay in the place of not praying etc., Satan wins. So, we need to step up the fight. We need to make a stand; pray when you least feel like it, sing when the words can barely come out, read the word, even if it's only one line. I find that the more I push against the desire to stay in bed and bury myself, the more I can fight my way out of it.

Today, writing this post it one of my fight tactics. I refuse to let Satan shut me up! I will not let the blues get me down and keep in a bad mood forever. I am going to pray and worship as best I can and in this I will let God fight with me and for me. Satan will never be done messing with us but we can identify it and we can fight him.

If you are facing the blues, evaluate what might be the cause, because it just might be a spiritual battle. I pray that as you leave this post today, you will be filled with the strength and spirit of the Lord Jesus Christ and that you will win against any of Satan's schemes against you.

God bless.

Faithfully,

Becky

Thank you for the encouragement. I sometimes get this 'blues' feeling and it is a struggle to find the strength to carry on. So thank you for your helpful advice, reminding us that Satan wants to bring us down and stop us serving our Living God. I shall remember when I am down to lift up my eyes to the Lord and keep persevering for him, despite my feelings. Amen
